In the Heart of Ferrara – Majestic Castle

Situated in the centre of the city of Ferrara, you cannot miss this great medieval castle which is surrounded by a large moat. TheCastello Estense is a large block with four corner towers.

During my 2 day stay in Ferrara we visited this fairy tale castle. We thought we might have a short visit, but were soon rapt by the history and magnificence of the place itself and were inside for an entire morning. There is almost too much to take in on one visit: there is so much to see and read. I’d like to give a special mention to the quality of the information boards in English. The writing, the explanations, the translation were all superb – and the information boards were at the perfect height.

Make Italy Yours 
There is much to love about Ferrara and its Castle. So much so that I wrote a children’s book about the castle, the Este, Lucrezia and the gastro-history of the region (Pasta for a Princess). When touring the Castle, reflective mirrors allow you to see the detailed painted ceilings without getting a stiff neck!
Your writings will surely inspire a trip to this wonderful city to enjoy the art, architecture and food! (cappellacci di zucca at Trattoria la Romantica is a must). Really enjoyed a stay at the Hotel Annunziata in a room overlooking the castle and a very special stay in Annunziata’s contemporary sister hotel, the Prisiani Art Suites. If you want to explore further into the history and beauty of the city, the Palazzo dei Diamanti is one of the most stunning palaces of Italian Renaissance.
